Great Gatsby 20s style milk dress

This Milk dress was inspired on the roaring 20s / great gatsby style.

First things first.. today’s model; Yvette Meurs, Mua by Sandra Schram for Make up match, assistant Evert and me shooting for XLphoto of course 🙂 and the production company who recorded it all. I’am really looking forward to the end result of that. (interview & some milk action).

As mentioned earlyer, the day of shooting this dress is also filmed by a production company and will be somewhere on the net soon! (I’ll keep you posted omn that). the moodboard was our guidline for this shoot, and I think it matches quite well!

Nerf gun to steampunk gun

Nerf gun to steampunk gun

As soon I find time (not before 5-2-2018) ther will be text beside this before / after of a simple toy gun to a steampunked one..

In short: start out with a Nerf Roughcut 2×4 and of course some additional chains and tube work..

take apart, fill where needed, sanddown a bit (microscratch the surface), use a plastic primer!!!, base coat black (matte) I’ve choosen copper as the second (do not (spray) paint evenly), work out detais (plastic straw and something simular :-)), details with plasti somethin.. (look up!) and finsh with drybrush technique. and some patina (antique)

Toy gun to Steampunk gun

As soon I find time (not before 5-2-2018) ther will be text beside this before / after of a simple toy gun to a steampunked one..

In short: start out with (whatever gun of your liking) find stuff that combine’s / fits (or can be made to fit :-)). In this case doubt between the original revolver, hairbrush and a orb (with light?) The brush is the winner this time.

Lighting diagram -shoot manon-

For today’s studio test with fujifilm X-T2 I would like to show you the light set up as well.

As allways I work with Einstein flashheads and / or with Elinchrome Hybrids. the light in the backgroud is used for a little rim light on the models face and to add some intrest to the background. the fabric over the beautydish (B) helps to soften the light a little bit. The deep octa is the main light.

Regarding the camera.. Mybe the X-T2 is not really the kind of camera you would like to use all the time for model shoots in the studio, but It could be me.. as the camera is just out of the box and and the (great feature) of focus peeking takes a little getting used too.. 🙂 (I’ll keep you posted on that one)
